Alzheimer’s Dementia is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to memory loss, cognitive decline, and changes in behavior. It is the most common form of dementia, often affecting individuals over the age of 65. Alzheimer’s results from the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain, which interfere with the communication between neurons and lead to brain cell death.
As the disease progresses, individuals may struggle with daily tasks, experience confusion, and have difficulty recognizing loved ones.
Alzheimer’s Dementia is directly related to brain health due to the buildup of amyloid plaques and tau tangles, which disrupt neuronal function and cause brain atrophy. The disease primarily affects the hippocampus, the region of the brain responsible for memory, and gradually spreads to other areas, impairing cognitive and physical functions.
At Brain Health Chicago, we approach Alzheimer’s treatment by focusing on slowing the progression of the disease and managing symptoms. Our neurological care includes medication to reduce cognitive decline, along with cognitive therapies to support brain function. We also explore innovative treatments, such as neuromodulation with TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and lifestyle modifications, aimed at enhancing brain health and quality of life.
"Dr. Cohen is on time, attentive and inquisitive about your concerns. I never felt rushed, nor did I have to repeat myself."
"Dr Cohen was caring, knowledgeable and thorough and got straight to the medical and non medical issues at hand. He also went the extra mile in making sure I received the services outside of his practice in which I was entitled as a patient and client."
"Great doctor. Came highly recommended by my primary care. He really listens. And checks everything. Very caring. And his treatment eliminates the pain. AND his wonderful staff that looks at emails and texts and gets you in as needed with pain level."

Greg and his son came to Dr. Cohen to see what type of treatments were available for Greg's underlying condition. As an intermittent treatment, Dr. Cohen suggested Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.
"Dr. Cohen does not give up. After every session, every appointment we've had there's been a new treatment, new idea to pursue, and a new avenue to explore. Even if it [the treatment] doesn't yield a high level of results there is always some level of improvement or maintaining a level of quality of life that wasn't there before."
